(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Trees and Trees

When I went to visit my childhood home last weekend, they had ripped out all of the trees on our tiny street. All of them. Every last one. They were growing too wild, too beautiful and were tearing up the sidewalks, ripping through the pavement. In the opinion of the Town of Oyster Bay, they had to be stopped. The sun poured in and the new sidewalks gleamed white. And I felt sick, knowing they were gone.

So I went to find them elsewhere. And I wondered...did anyone stop to think about what all the trees, even those too close to the path, could be?

  1. It's such a shame that the trees were pulled out. The trees in your photos are elegant and beautiful

  2. It's never made sense to me when towns go through "beautification" processes that include yanking out perfectly good trees.

  3. So sad about the trees. they've been cutting them down left and right where I am, and it seriously hurts to watch.

Beautiful pictures, though. It looks so serene and peaceful there, it makes me want to visit!

  4. Oh, goodness, NOOOO! Couldn't they have been moved? "Progress" is/can be so destructive.
We recently had to cut down the massive tree in our front lawn. Its roots were invading the sewer system, lifting up the driveway. I miss it.
At least you have to photos.

  5. I'm pretty sure I would have cried. I always think about how old trees must have been before they were pulled. Glad you connected with some beautiful new ones in their memory!
