I love these pale winter petals, brushed by the light of burning lamps on the streets of Society Hill in Philadelphia (where I ran off to, briefly, just the other day.)
Does anyone know these flowers? How do they dry and stay through winter?
Ooh, I love hydrangeas! They do seem so mysterious, showing their blossoms in winter... They're flowers that dry extremely well (if you put them in a dry vase, they won't wilt), so my guess would be that as soon as the temperatures get low enough for sap to stop running, the blossoms dry on the branches. (That's just what I've always assumed, not any professional opinion. ;) When spring comes around, the old flowers fall off to make room for new ones.
