In the dream, I had received an e-mail rejection for the novel I am currently writing. Which is only 17K in a first draft and is obviously no where near the query stage.
Anyhow, this is what the rejection (in the dream) said:
Dear Melissa:
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read your manuscript. Unfortunately, I am going to have to pass on the novel.
I actually enjoyed the read very much and considered offering representation. But when I got to the last page, there was urine on it. I find the fact that you peed on your manuscript very unsettling and I just couldn't get past it.
Thank you,
[Real Agent's Name]
So there you have it folks. Whatever happens, resist the urge to urinate on your novel and send it out. It will only lead to heartache. Now you know.
Ever have any weird dreams about your writing? Or peeing?
LOL, I choked on my breakfast when I read the last paragraph. Oh man! What a nightmare. I hope your dream doesn't cause me to have a nightmare tonight. ;)
ReplyDeleteBahahaha! That is hilarious!! I'll have to remember that. Don't pee on the MS! Gotcha!
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny! I haven't had one quite as strange, but I did have one a few months ago where all the non-writers I knew were landing agents without even trying. And they kept saying, "Getting an agent is easy!"
ReplyDeleteHow I laughed and am laughing still I will take heed and resist all urges when it comes to manuscripts.
ReplyDeleteBahaha! Too funny! The brain works in mysterious ways.
ReplyDeleteHehe! I didn't see that ending coming. OMG, hilarious. Oh how oddly our sleeping minds/subconscious assimilate our lives. o.0
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog...but what a fun post to come in on. :)
Happy Valentine's Day!
~Lola
Eh, you didn't want someone like that to represent you anyhow. Can't handle a little pee on the manuscript? Too soft!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I've dreamed of rejection before. I've also dreamed of marrying an agent who later rejected me (hmph! LOL). Last night I dreamed of some sort of writer's chat on Twitter, but I can't remember what the hashtag was! All night long, this Twitter conversation went through my head...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice on urine, though! How about other bodily fluids? Plasma, maybe? What about that crusty stuff that collects in the corner of your eyes, or plaque buildup from the teeth? A good writer needs to know these things...
I am dying laughing over here!!! I love your blog, too! This is too good.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a hard time typing a comment because I'm laughing so hard! I think I'll run up to my office and write on a sticky note, "Don't pee on manuscripts." ROFL!!! Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Definitely words to remember: don't pee on manuscripts!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate to feeling anxiety about something that it manifests itself in very strange ways. With this Austen short story contest I entered, I've dreamed that I was mysteriously "disqualified" twice for writing off-topic (?). Definitely not a good way to wake up in the morning!
It's the specificity of it all! >>> :)
